AMMAN — A nine-day festival will bring over 100 designers from Jordan and the region to Amman to showcase their innovative designs that solve everyday problems.

Amman Design Week, which begins on September 1, will be an opportunity for Jordanian designers to gain local and international exposure, said Abeer Seikaly, co-director of the festival.

“We noticed that there is great talent in the field and designers have complained that there was no event to showcase their works,” Seikaly told reporters at a press conference in Amman.

“We want to celebrate the local designers in Jordan,” she said.

Seikaly added that designs in the fields of architecture, furniture and clothing, among others, would be on show at the event, adding that the focus would be on designs that solve problems.

Rana Beiruti, another co-director of the event, said the festival is the first of its kind in Jordan and has the support of Her Majesty Queen Rania.

“Activities will be held at the Ras Al Ain Hangar, the MakerSpace at Jordan Museum, and the Crafts District at Raghadan Tourist Terminal,” she added.

Featuring over 100 events that cater to both adults and children, the festival is expected to receive more than 10,000 visitors at around 40 different spaces, according to a statement by the organisers.

The programme includes workshops, conferences, exhibitions, talks, discussions, and business and networking opportunities, as well as guided tours and performances, the statement said.
