Amman Chamber of Commerce calls for stronger trade relations with Indonesia

AMMAN — The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) on Monday called for expanding the horizons of economic, trade and tourism cooperation with Indonesia, and the activation of the agreements signed between private-sector institutions to enhance economic relations.

In a meeting with the president of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a delegation of representatives from the Azhar Educational Institute, ACC board members noted that Jordan’s education sector is one of the best in the region. 

They stressed the necessity of cooperation between both sides to attract Indonesian students to enrol in various programmes at universities in the Kingdom. 

The board members highlighted Jordan’s shipping and customs clearance system, adding that the Kingdom utilises advanced product inspection and conformity procedures to ensure that imports are up to standard. 

The ACC expressed its readiness to send Jordan’s current regulations to Indonesia for the importing of medication and cosmetics. 

ACC Chairman Khalil Haj Tawfiq said that the current volume of trade exchange between Indonesia and Jordan does not reflect the potential of and opportunities in both countries. 

He stressed the need to connect Jordanian businesspeople with their Indonesian counterparts, in addition to setting up trade missions to both countries. 

Haj Tawfiq said that the volume of Jordanian exports to Indonesia stood at around JD91 million last year, compared with JD86 million in imports.
