AMMAN — The government has decided to do away with the institutional quarantine for airport arrivals to the Kingdom and will enforce a seven-day home quarantine instead as of September 23, Minister of Transport Khaled Saif said during a press briefing at the Prime Ministry on Thursday.
Saif said that arrivals to the Kingdom must register in advance on the Visitjordan e-platform and provide a negative PCR test, stressing that the government “will not be lenient” towards any violation of these requirements.
Saif said that arrivals to the Kingdom from all destinations, categorised as red, yellow and green countries, will undergo a PCR test upon arrival, noting that any person who tests positive will undergo quarantine, while passengers who tested negative for the virus will be subject to self-isolation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Arrivals from countries classified as red, who test negative, will get an electronic wristband and undergo a one-week home isolation, while arrivals from countries classified as yellow will be subject to a seven-day self-isolation without electronic bands, the minister said, noting that administrative governors will follow up on arrivals’ commitment to isolation measures.
Arrivals from countries classified as green have to wait in the airport for their test results, he added, noting that passengers who test negative will be allowed entry to the country without undergoing isolation or wearing the electronic wristband.
The minister added that these measures aim at easing the return of Jordanians to the Kingdom, as well as to “push forward the economic cycle”, noting that the ministry will continue updating the epidemiological classifications of countries every 14 days.
Regular commercial flights to and from the Kingdom have resumed operations since September 8.
According to Saif, the Kingdom has welcomed nearly 4,300 passengers from nine countries: Qatar, Turkey, the UAE, Yemen, Austria, Ukraine, Italy, Bahrain and Iraq on 80 flights, while about 7,000 passengers have also departed on eight flights.
Saif noted that King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba has resumed regular international flights in accordance with the same mechanism adopted by Queen Alia International Airport in terms of the epidemiological classification, health protocol and mandatory registration on the Visitjordan platform.
