AMMAN — Agriculture Minister Khalid Hneifat on Thursday inaugurated the first Jordan Flower Show at Al Hussein Parks.
The event was organised by the ministry in cooperation with the Jordanian Association for Cut Flowers and Ornamental Plants, and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, according to a ministry statement.
Hneifat stressed that the ministry, as part of the national plan for sustainable agriculture, rural development and women’s empowerment, has sought to launch a series of exhibitions and festivals to support the marketing of products from rural artisans.
The flower industry has provided some 5,700 jobs, which along with zero-interest loans provided by the ministry, has contributed to the sector’s expansion which now covers 90 per cent of the local flower consumption, valued at approximately JD50 million.
