AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation Mohammed Najjar and President of Australian soil restoration company VRM Biologik, Ken Bellamy, on Thursday signed a cooperation agreement to restore soil across a 20,000-dunum area. Najjar highlighted the ministry's efforts to improve the agricultural land in the Jordan Valley and other areas within the sustainable fodder cultivation project, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment to help farmers achieve agricultural development, achieve food security and provide all requirements for land development.

The project is intended to improve the efficiency of soil, and aid in reclamation, ecosystem reform, safe transfer of organic waste, addressing climate change and enhancing scientific knowledge about non-traditional production conditions and the possibility of finding productive alternatives for farmers, he said. He added that the project would reduce water consumption, alleviate negative effects of fertiliser and lower soil salinity.
