Agencies report over 16,000 cases of electricity theft since January

AMMAN — Jordanian agencies registered 16,160 alleged electricity thefts during the first 10 months of the year, The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) chief commissioner, Farouq Hiyari, announced on Saturday.
The EMRC, through 252,232 inspectional campaigns, detected 8,331 of the total cases, the public security and gendarmerie departments detected 2,250 and electricity distribution companies reported 5,579, Hiyari noted in an EMRC statement.
Hiyari said that 1,940 lawsuits were filed in the courts during the same period, with courts issuing final rulings for 1,706 over the January-October period.
