AMMAN — The Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) on Tuesday highlighted a package of local and foreign investment attractions in logistics, ports and industrial zones.

CEO of ADC Hussein Safadi, during a meeting with a delegation representing Aqaba locals, said that the key project is the establishment of an 1,800-dunnum industrial zone in the Quweira district, which will be supplied with industrial gas to serve manufacturing operations through a partnership with the main developer, the Aqaba industrial zone.

All designs for the establishment of a gas supply station in Quweira have been completed, he said, pointing out that the project, intended to serve SMEs, is the first of its kind in the Kingdom.

Safadi added that the ADC and APM Terminals have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), entailing a direct investment volume of some $242 million, in a bid to make Aqaba a regional logistics hub.

Under the agreement, a training college called "Maersk" will be established to offer Jordanian youth training that would allow them to work in the regional and international port systems.

Highlighting the corporation's efforts in support of education, Safadi said that the ADC signed an agreement with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and the Ministry of Education, as per which a central school district with a capacity of 3,000 students was established, noting that the first stage of the schools' operations started this semester.

He also highlighted efforts to attract Aqaba's first medical university, which is expected to open its doors to the first batch of students at the beginning of next year.

The corporation also has established a fishing harbour that stretches along the middle shore and up to the Old City, and includes markets and various places dedicated for fishing, he said.

The locals commended the ADC's achievements and efforts in supporting initiatives that could serve the port city.
