AMMAN — Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) Fathi Jaghbeer on Thursday called for the timely disbursement of tax refunds to factories and speed up customs measures. During a meeting between Income and Sales Tax Department Director General Hussam Abu Ali, Jordan Customs Department (JCD) Director General Maj. Gen. Jalal Qudah, Jaghbeer stressed the importance of meetings that bring ministers and officials responsible for the industrial sector to closely follow up on important issues and challenges facing the sector.
Noting that although several issues related to the work of the customs and tax departments have been resolved, a number of them still remain unresolved, including the imposition of customs duties on imported nuts as raw materials for the local nuts food industry while exempting imported nuts as a ready-to-serve product from such duties. Abu Ali said that the accumulated sales tax refunds worth JD35 million date back several years. He added that the department has disbursed JD10 million so far, noting that work is in progress to expedite paying the remaining amounts to eligible factories.
