96 deaths, 7,751 infections add to Kingdom’s COVID tally

AMMAN — Ninety-six COVID-19 deaths and 7,751 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Tuesday, increasing the caseload to 605,007, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 6,747 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 15.71 per cent, compared with 16.21 per cent reported on Monday.

A total of 49,334 virus tests were also conducted on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,875,000, according to the statement.

The statement added that 9,535 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Tuesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 503,952.

The statement added that there are currently 94,308 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 464 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 3,400, the statement said, adding that 359 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 49 per cent, ICU beds reached 73 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 42 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 70 per cent, 80 per cent for ICUs and 47 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 34 per cent, 40 per cent for ICUs and 32 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 3,434 infections in Amman, 1,003 in Irbid, including 74 in Ramtha District, 509 in Balqa, 951 in Zarqa, 236 in Madaba, 201 in Aqaba, 327 in Mafraq, 237 in Jerash, 247 in Ajloun, 377 in Karak, 132 in Tafileh and 97 in Maan, including 21 cases in Petra District.
