720 smuggled cartons of cigarettes seized at Karameh border crossing

AMMAN — The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) personnel at the Karameh border crossing have foiled an attempt to smuggle 720 cartons of cigarettes, JCD announced on Sunday.
The cartons were seized in secret hideouts inside the tyres of a lorry loaded with goods that was heading into the Kingdom, according to a JCD statement. A total of JD20,000 was paid as customs fees and fines for the smuggled cigarettes, the statement added.
