63 virus cases, including 59 local infections, registered on Tuesday

56 recoveries reported on Tuesday; caseload reaches 2,097

AMMAN — Sixty-three virus cases, including 59 local infections were registered in the Kingdom on Tuesday, increasing the caseload since the outbreak of the pandemic to 2,097, the government announced.

The local cases included 54 infections in Amman, of which 52 are contacts of COVID-19 patients, while the sources of infection of two individuals are under investigation.

Four domestic infections were also recorded in Zarqa, and a case whose source of infection is under investigation was reported in Jerash. 

The four cases from abroad were registered at quarantine hotels, according to a joint statement by the Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, 56 recoveries were reported on Tuesday — 30 from Prince Hamzah Hospital, 25 at the Dead Sea quarantine site and one from Queen Alia Hospital.

The health minister also said that epidemiological investigation teams on Tuesday conducted a total of 10,861 random virus tests nationwide, increasing the total number of tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 839,241.

As the number of local infections is increasing, the Health Ministry has also renewed its call on citizens to abide by Defence Order No. 11 and precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding gatherings of more than 20 people.

The ministry also urged the citizens to use the “Sahtak” (your health) application for smartphones, which provides users with the latest information and news related to the COVID-19 disease, in addition to “Aman” (Safety) application, which alerts users if they come into contact with a person infected with the virus.
