61 COVID deaths, 8,053 virus cases recorded on Sunday

AMMAN — Sixty-one COVID-19 deaths and 8,053 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 477,053, the government announced.
The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 5,346 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.
The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 18.79 per cent, compared with 14.81 per cent reported on Saturday.
A total of 42,852 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,174,645, according to the statement.
The statement added that 6,068 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 396,195.
The statement added that there are currently 75,512 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.
A total of 451 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 2,769, the statement said, adding that 323 recovered patients left hospitals.
The statement revealed that the number of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients in hospitals on Saturday totalled 2,179, registering an occupancy rate of 42 per cent, while a total of 632 ICU beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients, at a rate of 51 per cent.
A total of 307 ventilators were used for treating COVID-19 patients, at an occupancy rate of 27 per cent.
The cases comprised 3,631 infections in Amman, 1,358 in Irbid, including 25 in Ramtha District, 588 in Zarqa, 487 in Balqa, 423 in Karak, 356 in Jerash, 305 in Ajloun, 252 in Aqaba, 235 in Madaba, 207 in Mafraq, 126 in Maan, including two cases in Petra District, and 85 in Tafileh.
