30 local cases, 10 infections from abroad registered on Tuesday

AMMAN — Forty COVID-19 cases, including 30 local infections, were registered in the Kingdom on Tuesday, increasing the caseload to 1,438, the government announced.

The new cases include 24 people in Amman, who contracted the virus as a result of work-related exposure to COVID-19 positive individuals, a joint statement by the Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry said. 

The majority of the cases work in a factory, which has been closed since the occurrence of COVID-19 cases there, the statement said. 

The 24 cases include 12 Egyptian nationals, six Jordanians, five Syrians and another case, whose source of infection is under investigation. 

Also among the new cases are three infections from Ramtha and two from Zarqa, all of whom are contacts of individuals who had tested COVID-19 positive.

The local cases also comprised an Egyptian worker at the Omari border crossing.

Cases from abroad include seven Jordanians — five returning from Saudi Arabia, one from Qatar and one from Ukraine — who have been in quarantine at designated hotels. 

The cases also include three Jordanian truck drivers who tested positive at the Omari border crossing. 

Two recoveries were reported on Tuesday, according to the statement.

A total of 6,989 random virus tests were also conducted on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the beginning of the crisis to 705,920. 

As the country is witnessing an increase in the number of local infections, the Health Ministry has renewed its call on the public to abide by Defence Order No. 11 and precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing.

The Health Ministry has warned against practices that violate public safety, mainly gathering of more than 20 people.

 The ministry also urged the citizens to use the “Sahtak” (your health) application for smartphones, which provides users with the latest information and news related to the COVID-19 disease, in addition to “Aman” (Safety) application, which alerts users if they come into contact with a person infected with the virus.
