AMMAN — Police on Thursday announced the arrest of three foreign nationals who were allegedly involved in smuggling two kilogrammes of cocaine via Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA).
The Anti-Narcotics Department received a tip that two persons, who swallowed two kilogrammes of cocaine, were heading to Jordan, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
“The two individuals were monitored the minute they arrived at QAIA and were examined with special equipment that determined that the illicit drugs were in their stomach,” Sartawi said.
The “illicit drugs” were extracted from their stomach in a medical manner, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
Upon questioning the two suspects, the police official said, “they revealed to investigators the identity of the person who was supposed to receive the illegal shipment”.
The suspect was also arrested after being located by investigators, according to Sartawi.
The three suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecutor for further questioning and indictment, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate (PSD).
The police official said that the PSD will not tolerate any attempt to “smuggle these deadly substances into the Kingdom”.
“We will constantly fight these kinds of attempts and will provide the necessary technical and investigative means to prevent all kinds of smugglings,” Sartawi stressed.
