AMMAN — The ministries of water and environment on Tuesday signed three agreements to implement a wheat and sustainable feed production project.

Minister of Water and Irrigation Mohammed Al Najjar and Minister of Environment Muawieh Radaideh signed three agreements with Director of Wadi Araba Development Company Osama Rahamneh and cooperative associations in the south of Amman and the Theiban plains to implement the project of wheat cultivation and sustainable feed production in these regions.

The project is part of an executive programme between the Ministry of Water/the Jordan Valley Authority and the Ministry of Environment/Badia rehabilitation and environmental compensation programme, which aims to establish pilot agricultural projects in cooperation with Badia and Wadi Araba's associations.

The programme aims to rehabilitate arable lands and create an attractive environment for achieving comprehensive development, in line with the national plan to improve the agriculture sector and serve the local communities.

Highlighting the importance of the project of sustainable production of irrigated feed through increasing the height of the Wallah Dam, Najjar said that a bilateral agreement was concluded between the Ministry of Environment, the Badia Rehabilitation Programme and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Jordan Valley Authority, including an action plan for the rehabilitation programme of the Badia, in addition to agreements to implement water harvesting projects in various regions of the Kingdom, notably south of Amman, Theiban and Wadi Araba.

Najjar and Radaideh expressed appreciation for the donors, especially the Governing Council of the United Nations Compensation Commission's efforts in support of the Kingdom to improve services provision through implementing projects and activities to rehabilitate the Badia's ecosystems.
