AMMAN — The Jordan Times distributes on Monday the 25th issue of Al Qibla newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Great Arab Revolt.

The four-page newspaper dedicates its editorial to talk about the “meaning of allegiance to the king”, in which the chief editor, Fuad Al Khatib, said that the influx of people from across the region who vowed loyalty to King Hussein Bin Ali indicated that the Arabs had been so eager to see an Arab Hashemite state coming into existence after centuries of Ottoman rule that offered so little.

The paper highlighted Sharif Hussein’s idea of an extended and inclusive Arab state “where there is no discrimination” between a citizen and another on the basis of ethnicity, religion or sect.

King Hussein Bin Ali declared Hijaz a Kingdom after he launched the revolt in June 1916.

Al Qibla reprinted articles and op-eds from other newspapers, including an Indian paper, and covered the news of the World War I, especially news of defeats of the Central Powers, including Turkey.

It also covered daily life news of Hijaz and published an advertisement encouraging Arab youth to enlist in the revolt’s forces.

The distribution of Al Qibla by The Jordan Times and other local dailies is part of celebrations of the centennial of the Great Arab Revolt.
