‘24 charity societies dissolved for violations this year ‘

By Petra - Feb 28,2015 - Last updated at Feb 28,2015

AMMAN — The Ministry of Social Development is monitoring the work of charity societies to prevent violations, Minister Reem Abu Hassan said on Saturday.

Since the beginning of 2015, the ministry has dissolved 24 societies, issued five warnings and appointed an interim board to run seven charities.

If a society obtains funds from a foreign entity without the approval of the ministry and the Prime Ministry, or collects donations without approval, the ministry steps in and appoints an interim board, Abu Hassan said.

Thirty-five new charity societies have been registered since the beginning of the year, she added.
