16 COVID deaths, 809 virus cases recorded on Sunday

AMMAN — Sixteen COVID-19 deaths and 809 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 724,154.
The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 9,259, according to a government statement.
The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 4.22 per cent, compared with 3.12 per cent reported on Saturday.
A total of 19,177 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,940,992, according to the statement.
The statement added that 1,272 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 703,642.
The statement added that there are currently 11,253 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.
A total of 77 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 714, the statement said, adding that 74 recovered patients left hospitals.
On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 16 per cent, ICU beds reached 27 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 17 per cent.
In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 14 per cent, 28 per cent for ICUs and 13 per cent for ventilators.
The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 5 per cent, 12 per cent for ICUs and 11 per cent for ventilators.
The cases comprised 276 infections in Amman, 163 in Irbid, including nine cases in Ramtha District, 75 in Zarqa, 64 in Maan, out of which 14 cases in Petra District, 42 in Ajloun, 41 in Balqa, 36 in Mafraq, 30 in Karak, 23 in Aqaba, 22 in Jerash, 21 in Tafileh and 16 in Madaba.
