AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) agents have arrested 15 drug dealers during a week-long campaign in Zarqa, an official source said Sunday.
AND agents also arrested 30 drug users in the crackdown, the source told The Jordan Times.
“We received information that several individuals were running an illegal drug distribution ring and monitored the dealers, until we arrested them in separate raids without any major incidents,” the official explained.
He added that AND agents arrested the 15 men over the course of a week in different neighbourhoods in Zarqa, some 22km east of Amman.
AND agents also seized 20,000 Captagon pills in the campaign, according to a statement by the Public Security Department.
Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested while they were attempting to sell 52 kilogrammes of hashish in an east Amman neighbourhood, the source added.
“The two men were in the process of selling the illegal narcotics when AND agents stormed the apartment and arrested them,” he noted.
The hashish had entered Jordan from a neighbouring country and was destined for another state in the region, according to the source.
The suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecution for further questioning and indictment, he added.
