14 COVID deaths, 2,097 virus cases recorded Sunday

Positive rate of COVID tests stood at 6.67% — Health Ministry

AMMAN — Fourteen COVID-19 deaths and 2,097 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 875,804, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 11,128, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 6.67 per cent.

A total of 31,420 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 11,199,602, according to the statement.

The statement added that 1,602 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 840,282.

The statement added that there are currently 24,394 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 71 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 639, the statement said, adding that 61 recovered patients have left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 18 per cent, ICU beds reached 41 per cent, while the occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 21 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 15 per cent, 31 per cent for ICUs and 11 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 11 per cent, 21 per cent for ICUs and 21 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 766 in Amman, 379 in Irbid, 165 in Zarqa, 143 in Balqa, 66 in Karak, 50 in Maan, 106 in Jerash, 126 in Aqaba, 98 in Ajloun, 86 in Mafraq, 34 in Tafileh, 76 in Madaba, two in Ramtha District, while no cases were recorded in Petra District.

The statement also added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 4,004,226, while 3,570,387 have gotten their second shot.

The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 4,379,039.
