AMMAN — The Royal Medical Services (RMS) on Thursday launched the second phase of a lower robotic prosthetic limbs implantation project for military and retired injured personnel at the National Centre for the Rehabilitation of Amputees in Al Hussein Medical City.

RMS Director General Maj. Gen. Saad Jaber said that 125 advanced lower artificial limbs will receive prosthetic implants, in a bid to facilitate physical mobility for military amputees injured in the line of duty or in various accidents, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Jaber stated that the RMS seeks to introduce the latest equipment that will enable amputees to go about their lives as easily as possible.

He added that both phases of the project were launched under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army.

Injured military personnel say they can now move and push easily, as well as run for small distances and carry out daily duties, Petra reported.

Some of them were able to rejoin their units after implantation, Jaber underlined.

Under the patronage of His Majesty the King, the amputees’ rehabilitation centre opened in 2006 to serve as a regional centre for amputees, according to Petra.

The centre also manufactures and implants these prosthetic limbs, as it receives patients from different parts of the Arab world, the news agency added.
