11 COVID deaths, 986 virus cases recorded Sunday

AMMAN — Eleven COVID-19 deaths and 986 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 777,164, the government announced.

The new fatalities raised the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 10,127, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as the positive rate, stood at nearly 5.2 per cent.

A total of 18,959 virus tests were conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 8,647,687, according to the statement.

The statement said that 1,131 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 754,856.

The statement added that there are currently 12,181 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 81 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, raising the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 636, the statement said, adding that 72 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region, the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 9 per cent, ICU beds reached 18 per cent and the occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 8 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rates reached 19 per cent, 32 per cent for ICUs and 12 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that in the southern region, the isolation bed occupancy rate was 11 per cent, 11 per cent for ICUs and 4 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 528 in Amman, 122 in Zarqa, 62 in Tafileh, 45 in Irbid, 43 in Maan, 41 in Balqa, 31 in Jerash, 27 in Karak, 25 in Ajloun, 20 in Aqaba, 20 in Mafraq, 19 in Madaba and three in Ramtha District. No cases were recorded in Petra District.

The statement also added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 3,171, 813 and 2,417,262 have received their second shot.

The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 3,714,521.
