1,098 people arrested on drug charges in June — PSD

AMMAN — The Public Security Department (PSD) said that 1,098 people were arrested in 593 drug trafficking cases in June. The PSD spokesperson said that 124kg of hashish, 900,000 Captagon pills, 8,000 unspecified narcotic pills, 4kg of crystal meth, 37kg of marijuana, 24 grammes of cocaine, 2kg of industrial hashish, 2.4kg of hashish powder and several firearms were confiscated in campaigns last month, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. In addition to these operations, the Anti-Narcotic Department (AND) conducted 275 initiatives aimed at raising awareness of drug abuse. These activities involved various educational programmes such as courses, lectures, workshops and seminars, which were held in collaboration with academic and media institutions and partners. The AND-run drug addiction treatment centre received a total of 85 cases in June.
