10 COVID deaths, 1,652 virus cases recorded Sunday

AMMAN — Ten COVID-19 deaths and 1,652 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 851,410, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 10,951, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as the positive rate, stood at nearly 5.40 per cent.

A total of 30,590 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 10,743,914, according to the statement.

The statement added that1,307 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 822,520.

The statement added that there are currently 17,939 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 89 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 606, the statement said, adding that 62 recovered patients have left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 17 per cent, ICU beds reached 27 cent, while the occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 13 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 15 per cent, 30 per cent for ICUs and 11 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 10 per cent, 16 per cent for ICUs and 14 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 561 in Amman, 382 in Irbid, 109 in Zarqa, 106 in Balqa, 69 in Karak, 50 in Maan, 48 in Jerash, 118 in Aqaba, 87 in Ajloun, 41 in Mafraq, 21 in Tafileh, 11 in Petra District, 47 in Madaba, and two cases in Ramtha district.

The statement also added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 3,884,920, while 3,469,854 have gotten their second shot.

The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 4,278,442.
