AMMAN — The series of discussions presented at the “We Lead towards realisation of sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHRs) and resilience” conference produced recommendations that organisers released on Thursday.
The conference, organised by the Arab Network for Civic Education (ANHRE), comes as part of the We Lead Project, an innovative five-year programme funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and launched in 2021 by Hivos and five other consortium members: Positive Vibes, Restless Development, FCAM, FEMNET and Marsa.
The programme seeks to amplify the voices of most marginilised young women in terms of SRHRs. ANHRE is a civic regional network of institutions and individuals dedicated to promoting human rights and sustainable development goals through the empowerment of communities.
During the two-day conference, speakers stressed the importance of enhancing the legislative framework to ensure improved access to sexual and reproductive health services.
Further, participants recommended proper implementation of Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities No. 20 of 2017, emphasising the need to ensure that accessible forms of information relating to SRHR are available to them, particularly women and girls.
Among the recommendations which emerged from the conference was “the establishment of comprehensive national data systems to effectively track and monitor progress and identify gaps and areas of improvement in the provision of sexual and reproductive health services,” ANHRE said in a statement sent to The Jordan Times.
Speakers also called for a comprehensive assessment of national laws, policies and regulations related to reproductive and sexual health, while involving the active participation of civil society organisations and all relevant stakeholders. Emphasis was placed on the importance of funding mobile clinics and including mental health services in medical insurance coverage.
