‘National Coalition for International Human Rights Mechanisms’ established

AMMAN — At a joint initiative of 14 civil society organisations in Jordan, the establishment of the “National Coalition for International Human Rights Mechanisms” was announced.
The coalition includes SIGI, Jordanian Society for Human Rights, Roaa Women Association, and Intermediaries Change Centre for Sustainable Development, Waee Centre for Human Rights Training, Tamkeen for Legal Aid and Human Rights, Forearms of Change Centre to Enable Community, I am a Human Society for Rights of Persons with Disability, Creativity and Challenge Society, Yarmouk Builders Association, Professional Tools for Training and Capacity Building Foundation, the Adaleh Centre for Human Rights Studies, Lawyers without Borders, among others.
The coalition’s vision is to promote Jordan’s fulfillment of the international obligations deriving from human rights conventions, according to statement from the Adaleh Centre for Human Rights Studies.
In order to achieve this goal, the coalition prioritises engaging in the reporting process, discussing it and following up on the recommendations made by the United Nations mechanisms in partnership with all relevant parties to ensure promoting and protecting human rights,
The coalition also aims to strengthen the standards of partnership between civil society institutions and build expertise at the local, regional and international levels in the field of preparing reports and writing skills and collecting data.
In addition it intends to implement the recommendations and conclude observations issued by United Nations mechanisms, and contribute to the governance of the relationship between civil society institutions concerned with human rights and the official institutions involved in reporting process and follow-up on recommendations
The coalition will be launched as part of the celebration held by the coalition on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day on December 19.
The door to participate in the coalition is open for organisations and individuals working in the field of promoting and protecting human rights.
