AMMAN — The Swiss embassy in Jordan and Iraq, in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Amman, inaugurated on Wednesday evening the “Dialogues on Humanity” photo exhibition, marking the 75th anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Conventions.

The opening ceremony, held at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, was attended by government officials, humanitarian specialists, university students and representatives from civil society, the diplomatic community, local and international organisations, artists and media personnel, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The embassy stressed that the exhibition portrays everyday situations and topics linked to the humanitarian principles of the Geneva Conventions. The photographs aim to enhance visitors’ understanding and appreciation of these principles, which include humanity, integrity, neutrality and independence.

The embassy noted that the exhibition not only celebrates the Geneva Conventions’ 75th anniversary but also underscores the collective responsibility to ensure their respect and implementation.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the ICRC and the Swiss embassy are hosting a series of events, including the screening of the Swiss documentary “Prisoners of Fate”, directed by Mehdi Sahebi at the Royal Film Commission outdoor cinema on June 30.

The exhibition will be open to the public from June 14 to July 7, inviting visitors to engage with humanitarian principles and share their perspectives on various topics.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Switzerland, a relationship characterised by mutual respect, cooperation, and friendship.
